Answers to Frequently Asked Questions!
What is Eduformance's Approach to PERFORMANCE Coaching AND BRAIN TRAINING?
Eduformance treats each student like a unique individual. We know that every child and student has different learning styles. That is why our coaches sit down with each student to develop a program that fits their specific needs and learning abilities. Our process is unique, focusing on the student’s areas of weakness and approach to learning.
How Can I Get Started With ACADEMIC Coaching AND BRAIN TRAINING?
Getting started is easy… contact us today to arrange a free consultation. We'll spend the time you need to answer your questions and understand your goals. We can help start a new path to academic and life success by tailoring a coaching program that meets your needs and fits within your schedule and budget.
Why Is Personal Coaching More Effective Than Doing It On Your Own?
A personal coach will customize your program, will hold you accountable, will become your mentor and will encourage you beyond your comfort zone. It’s like having a personal trainer instead of an exercise DVD, see the difference?
Do coaches work with the school or teachers?
Yes, with your permission, our coaches reach out to the student’s teachers to increase communication and understand the requirements of the class. Often they also provide insight into the child’s learning challenges or areas where the student can get ahead of the class.
Are you flexible with coaching days and times?
Yes, during the consultation, the Education Consultant will discuss scheduling constraints and work with the family or student to determine the best schedule for the sessions.
How Do I Know If My Child Needs Help?
Most of the time it will be obvious when your child needs help. Often, you can see when they are struggling. You’ll see warning signs, such as low grades, poor test and quiz grades, struggles with homework, avoiding homework, changes in attitude or behaviour, or becoming disorganized or quiet and withdrawn.
Your child’s teacher may also notice issues and tell you that your child is a daydreamer, a class clown, or is acting out. The teacher may be concerned about your child's ability to succeed, or that important school skills are missing.
How much does your service cost?
Our approach is to develop customized solutions that will fit your budget.
Will my child outgrow his or her learning struggle?
Not necessarily. Children and teens (and even adults) who struggle do so for a reason, and the reason may be weak cognitive skills. As your child is maturing, weak cognitive skills may not catch up (which is why adults can struggle with weak cognitive skills, too). Perhaps a better question is, while your child is struggling, how are those struggles impacting his or her self-image? Confidence? Love of learning? Whatever stage of education or life you or your child are in, it’s never too soon to take action to work on weak cognitive skills.
What causes reading struggles?
Most reading struggles are due to a weakness in auditory processing. This is the cognitive skill that allows us to identify, segment, and blend sounds. But other weak skills can interfere with reading, too. For example, poor attention skills can mean a reader is frequently distracted, poor memory skills can interfere with recall, and poor visual processing skills can keep a reader from creating the mental pictures that help them comprehend and engage with what they just read. Our performance skills coaching works on each of these weaknesses.
CAN YOU REWIRE THE BRAIN?
Yes, due to its plasticity, the brain can be rewired. Our brains are truly extraordinary; unlike computers, which are built to certain specifications and receive software updates periodically; our brains can actually receive hardware updates in addition to software updates. Different pathways form and fall dormant, are created and are discarded, according to our experiences.
When we learn something new, we create new connections between our neurons. We rewire our brains to adapt to new circumstances. This happens on a daily basis, but it’s also something that we can encourage and stimulate through Brain Training.
Neuroplasticity refers to the brain’s ability to adapt.
